Binary Star Systems works out of Bend, Oregon, a technology hub on the state's east side, where co-founders Jim Sipe (software engineer) and Lisa Sipe (designer) run a design and technology studio for businesses that need both a digital presence and the systems behind it. The agency designs and develops responsive WordPress websites, builds custom iOS and Android mobile apps, and takes on updates or improvements to existing sites and applications rather than only greenfield builds.
Beyond the build, the studio handles the material that fills a brand's touchpoints: content for websites, blog posts, social media and newsletters, and print collateral such as brochures, product catalogs, business cards, ads and tradeshow booths. Branding and logo work sit alongside this, framed as capturing a client's culture, value and goals through design, with social, email and online advertising used to connect that branding with current and potential customers. UX research and human-centered design inform how websites and applications are structured for the people using them.
The studio's design work has been recognized outside the agency itself: the Transformation from Tragedy book design earned an Award of Distinction and a Gold Creative Award, and the Mayo Clinic Humanities in Medicine calendar received an Award of Distinction. Logos designed by Binary Star Systems appear in LogoLounge Master Library, Volumes 3 and 4, placing the studio's identity work within a recognized industry reference collection.
