Cantilever

Cantilever was founded in New York in 2011 by designer/developer Ty Fujimura, building websites for organizations ranging from small nonprofits to larger institutions. The agency has since grown into a distributed operation, with staff across six countries speaking more than twenty languages, while keeping headquarters in NYC. Work spans website design, landing pages, frontend and backend development, headless CMS builds, API and systems integration, accessibility remediation, and security hardening.

Projects start from a consultative, people-focused process rather than a fixed template, with data and diagnostics used to guide technology decisions before development begins. That diagnostic step is meant to cut down on rework later in a build. Cantilever also partners with outside tools and platforms to extend what a site can do once it launches, rather than treating a site as a one-time deliverable.

Recent client work reflects that range: a deeply integrated web development partnership with Calibrate, a new website and faster learning management system for Flatiron School, and a full-scale rebuild with ongoing data visualizations for the Bipartisan Policy Center. Cantilever describes its own operating model around a triple bottom line of people, profits, and planet, a framework it applies internally alongside the client work.
