Factorydesign

Factorydesign works from a studio and workshops in West London, focusing specifically on the aviation sector since 1997. The agency's projects center on cabin interiors, seating and the broader passenger experience for airline clients, with a team that includes industrial designers, CMF specialists, strategists and design engineers working across the full design process for on-board environments.

Services span colour, materials and finish (CMF) work for trim and finish, brand interpretation and the creation of cabin and product design language, alongside idea generation, concept design and industrial design for new products. Factorydesign also develops passenger experience design end to end, shaping how travelers interact with cabin spaces and seating from initial concept through to production-ready detail. The agency is a member of the Green Cabin Alliance, a group focused on sustainability within the aviation industry.

The agency's project history includes cabin, seating and lavatory design for the last flown fleet of British Airways Concorde in 2001, and British Airways' first premium economy seat, World Traveller Plus, in 2004. In 2013 Factorydesign worked on JetBlue Mint, described as the world's first narrow-body lie-flat business class seat with a door, followed in 2017 by the Delta One suite, a customised Thompson Aero XL seat that created what is described as the world's first all-door business class cabin. More recently, in 2022, the agency worked with Virgin Atlantic's in-house team on the Retreat Suite, Upper Class cabin and The Loft social space for the airline's A330neo aircraft.
