Ploughshares Nursery is an integral part of the Alameda Point Collaborative, providing job training and employment opportunities to residents of the supportive housing community. The nursery dedicates of its sales to support housing for formerly homeless families, while also focusing on selling products that protect the environment. By using recycled materials whenever possible, Ploughshares promotes sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.

Throughout the year, Ploughshares offers free hands-on workshops on topics such as year-round vegetable gardening, drip irrigation, and pruning. In addition, Ploughshares is constructing a new building that will serve as a showcase for its products and provide classroom space. This structure is set to be the greenest building in Alameda, featuring straw bale walls, a living roof, a gray water recycle system, and solar power.

Located just a short walk from the Alameda – Main St Terminal, Ploughshares Nursery is supported by organizations like the Bonita Gardening Club, Yahoo Employee Foundation, and the City of Alameda/CBDO. The nursery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, offering a welcoming space for community members to learn and grow together.
