The Abacus Group

Abacus Group is an executive recruitment firm built around the permanent and temporary placement of professionals in Accounting & Finance, Administrative Support, Compliance, Human Resources, Marketing, and Information Technology. Brian Bereck and Len Frankel founded the firm as Abacus Group LLC in December 1997, establishing it as a New York City-based recruiting operation before expanding its structure and reach over the following decades.

The firm broadened its service lines in stages rather than all at once. Abacus Staffing LLC was formed in 2004 to extend the company's staffing capabilities, and in 2012 Abacus Group launched a dedicated Administrative Support, Human Resources, and Marketing division alongside a separate Information Technology division. This staged buildout reflects a recruiting practice organized around distinct professional categories rather than a single generalist desk, allowing recruiters to focus on the placement needs specific to each discipline.

Geographic growth followed the same incremental pattern. Abacus Group operated from New York City for two decades before opening a California office in 2017, then added a Florida office in 2024. The firm now runs recruitment operations out of these three locations, placing candidates in both permanent and temporary roles across the finance, administrative, compliance, HR, marketing, and IT specializations it has built out since 1997.
