Citizen science and IoT for Baltimore's air quality monitoring

Greater Baltimore Open Air leverages citizen science, IoT, and open hardware to monitor air quality in the Baltimore area. They have developed 250 WeatherCubes, which are weather and air quality stations that measure temperature, relative humidity, ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. These stations provide near-real-time data to help individuals and families make informed decisions about pollutant exposures and their health.

The WeatherCubes are designed by Dr. Yan Azdoud and Chris Kelly, with construction support from local Baltimoreans and the non-profit CivicWorks. The data collected by these stations is posted online once per day via WiFi, offering valuable insights into the local environment. The project has gained attention from various media outlets, including the Baltimore Sun and JHU's The Hub.
